# Assigned team

Every file has its owners: an optional supervisor and the staff who follow it day to day.

## Why assign a team

Assignment answers a simple question: who looks after this client? It makes the portfolio legible — the file list shows the team next to each name — and it feeds the Employees page, which ties the work produced back to the people who did it.

Note

Assignment is what opens a file to a colleague: without it, only the firm's admins — implicit supervisors of every file — can reach it.

## Supervisor and members

Two levels, deliberately few.

* The supervisor — one per file, optional. The named point of contact, the person you turn to when a call has to be made.
* The members — the staff who follow the file day to day. As many as needed.
* A member can be promoted to supervisor; the previous supervisor then simply becomes a member of the file again.

## Managing the assignment

From the file record, Team section.

1. Assign a supervisor  
Pick them among the firm's members. They appear at the top of the section.
2. Add the staff  
One at a time, from the same list. Those already assigned are flagged to avoid duplicates.
3. Adjust over time  
Removing someone touches nothing they produced: the file keeps its history and its attributions.

Tip

Unassigning a colleague from a file closes the door: they lose access to the client's vault and their seats on the conversations shared with them.

## What assignment brings to the Employees page

Per-employee indicators rest on this organisation: assigned clients, records processed on each, and clients without a lead. Without assignment, processed records are still counted but lose their anchor: you see what was done, not how the workload is spread.
